Macau Again Posts Record Gaming and Gambling Revenue



Gaming and gambling activities in Macau posted gross revenues of 58.905 billion patacas (US$7.363 billion) in the first nine months of 2007, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (GICB) said on its website.

The revenue achieved between January and September exceeded that for the whole of 2006 – 57.521 billion patacas – of 2004 – 43.511 billion patacas – and 2003 – 30.315 billion patacas.

By quarters, the first quarter accounted for 18.598 billion patacas, the second quarter for 19.772 billion and the third quarter for 10.535 billion patacas.

Of the total gross revenue, gambling contributed 98.99 percent or 58.315 billion patacas and the remainder was generated by greyhound and horse racing, Chinese and instant lotteries and football and basketball bets.

VIP baccarat remained the highest source of revenues and in the first nine months of the year generated 38.875 million patacas or 66.6 percent of the total for gambling.

At the end of the third quarter, Macau had 27 casinos, 18 of which are managed by Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, a company owned by Macau business magnate Stanley Ho.
