In just six weeks of operation, The Venetian Macao has already taken in over 2.5 million visitors. The $2.4 billion hotel and casino is inspired by Italy’s picturesque city, Venice. The Venetian Macao is the world’s largest casino, and has gondolas and canals mimicking the Italian city’s famous Bridge of Sighs.

The Macau Daily Post said most of the casino visitors are from Hong Kong and mainland China. Macau’s main attraction is its 27 casinos. The special administrative region attracted 22 million tourists in 2006, half of them are from China and were attracted by the gambling establishments. Seventy percent of Macau’s income is derived from its gaming, hotel and tourism industries.
The Venetian Macao is operated by U.S. based Las Vegas Sands, has high-end shops, dining establishments, and conference and exhibition services. When it opened on August 28, it boasted 3,000 rooms.
