Ambrose So, managing director of SJM, said that despite the current global financial crises which has forced the suspension of several construction projects in the SAR, he is confident in the success of Grand Lisboa’s hotel.
Speaking on the sidelines of the seminar on the chances of implementing the opening of the gaming industry, held at the University of Macau, Ambrose So said that not even the decrease in hotel occupancy rate in Macau is of concern to the company, and added that SJM have no reason to have fear of the current market state.
“The prestige which the casino has reached [since it began operation a almost two years ago], accessibility and luxury facilities of the new equipment, located in the city centre” were the main reasons for not having a reason to fear, Ambrose So said.
Moreover, the managing director of SJM also said he still sees the ’spa’ and the restaurant “another of the great advantages of the new equipment.”
The opening of the Grand Lisboa Hotel will put an end to all the delays suffered in opening of the full-venture, which were due to the “complexity of the issue of ownership, progress in the field of civil construction, and the complexity of the building where the hotel is located,” Ambrose So said.
In regards to the gaming industry, Ambrose So said he believes that under Macau’s current condition, there are enough casinos in the SAR, adding that the industry will now have to adapt to the new financial challenges.
However, “we are confident about our situation [in the gaming market],” Ambrose So added.
