Macau Science Museum Finally Starts to Take Shape



The Macau Science Museum near the Cultural Centre at Nape, which was expected to be completed in 2007, began to show its rough outlook.

The Science Museum, which was designed by the world renowned designer Leoh Ming Pei, is expected to cost approximately US$425 million.

At the scene, the top of the Science Museum was at the completion stage where the outlook of the core part of the Museum, the inclined cone, was appearing right now.

The total space of the Macau Science Museum will be approximate 620,000 square metres, which uses sliver steel as the outer covering.

The core part will be in the shape of an inclined cone, a circle and a rhombus, which are the exhibition centre, planetarium and convention centre respectively.

There will not only have themes on astronomy at the planetarium but also exhibit fourteen different topics and themes such as sound, light, electricity, biology, robots and environmental protection at the main exhibition centre.

The space of the spiral sharp cone exhibition is 3,600 square metres in total, which consists of four stories and fourteen exhibition centres. Within this, the exhibition centre will be basically enclosed but with the middle part possessing doors in order to capture natural light.

The space of the planetarium will be 650 square metres in total, which can contain 150 people at once and the diameter of the top will be 17 metres, which will be used to display astronomical films. The convention centre of the Science Museum will be 5,000 square metres in total, which can hold 600 people and can be used as a multifunctional exhibition centre and outdoor exhibition space.
