Ponte 16, the casino hotel which will open its doors Friday, was put through its fire drill paces yesterday near San Ma Lo in the Inner Harbour. Some 500 staff members from the corporation and 50 fire brigade officers took part in the simulated fire incident and evacuation practice which occurred at 11:00am in a restaurant kitchen on the complex’s sixth floor.
The fire head came out from the stove and two kitchen workers acted as the injured.
According to the Fire Services Bureau, Ponte 16 carried out its emergency measures and reported to them at the first place, and patrons and staff members were evacuated to a meeting point outside the building.
The fire brigade sent out two water pump vehicles, a rescue vehicle, a 37-meter-ladder-platform vehicle and two ambulances which arrived at the scene within four minutes. In the next 40 minutes by 11.40am, the fire fighters put out the fire in the kitchen and saved the “injured” man and woman who were then sent to the hospital.
n addition, two “slightly injured’ women received first-aid care at the ground floor first-aid station and were also sent to the hospital. Another “slightly injured” man was found in the meeting point but he refused to go to the hospital.
A fire drill is a legal practice which is essential for every new property in Macau ahead of its opening. The objective of the simulation is to test both parties’ risk management skills and communication mechanism. The fire services said the post-fire-drill evaluation meeting was concluded yesterday with a satisfactory result being met.
