Macau Fringe to be suspended this year

The Macau Fringe is to be suspended for this year, so that an international panel can be formed to encourage more local artists to perform at the festival.

According to the Macao Daily News report, the organiser, the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, pointed out past fringes might not ignite the interests of or push local artistic groups to participate because the performers were invited by them.

The new selection method will allow competition between local artists, with international approval.

The first fringe was held in 1999.
